Anne Shingler is a Recreation Management major at the University of Georgia. Her time as an Outdoor Recreation intern at Kalu Yala will mark the last semester of her undergraduate career, and her departure from the Georgia homes she has always known in Atlanta and Athens. Anne first experienced the great outdoors when she went to summer camp at age six. Ever since her thirst for adventure and immersion in nature have continued to shape not only her character but also her career path. Anne hopes to gain invaluable skills and knowledge of back country living while contributing to the powerful impact Kalu Yala is making. When she returns to the states in April, she will take her experiences and degree to begin a career as a summer camp professional in the beautiful Rocky Mountains of Colorado. There she will teach the next generation to reap the benefits of wild places, the spiritual experiences found in nature, and how to ensure the protection of the world for the next generation.
