Joe McKittrick was born and raised in the great state of Montana, the last best place. Here is where he developed his life-long love affair with wild places. Studying at the University of Montana, Joe found it possible to turn this passion into a career goal by studying parks, recreation, and tourism with an emphasis in nature based tourism. He is now a junior and will be graduating in the spring of 2013. Joe has spent as much of his free time as possible in the outdoors and now is employed as an outdoor recreation facilitator with the city of Missoula MT as well as a rock climbing instructor for the University of Montana. He is also in the process of becoming a whitewater guide in the Missoula area. When Joe saw the email regarding Kalu Yala, he began applying before the end of the night. Panama presented a new adventure and the opportunity to be in on the ground floor of a sustainable, nature-based tourism organization. Besides this, the culture of Latin America has always been an interest of his, so there was little question about whether or not he should apply for a chance to be completely immersed in it for three months.
