Biography - Kate Stewart Stice

Graduating from Florida State University in spring of 2008, Kate took a 6-month solo round-the-world trip visiting 20 countries, starting in New Zealand and ending in Spain. Arriving home in Atlanta she began work at a local artisan bakery and worked her way up to General Manager. Here, she learned the importance of local businesses. Working with over 90 local restaurants, Kate sadly watched many close during the recession. Leaving the bakery was tough but Kalu Yala was calling her. For Kalu Yala, Kate’s creating the team’s reporting systems, heading up intern program organization, organizing a sustainable system for future interns and acting as Editor in Chief of our blog. Kate holds many of Kalu Yala’s ideals close to heart, particularly conservation, thoughtful (and thought through) planning, sustainable food systems and supporting local businesses. “I like that we don’t just believe in measure twice, cut once; instead we will measure hundreds of times in hundreds of ways, to cut only once.”
