Biography - Mary Ann Turrentine

Raised in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina, Mary Ann grew up with a love for the outdoors. As a student at the University of Georgia, majoring in agribusiness, Mary Ann hopes to pursue a career with a sustainable agriculture company after graduating in December. Her passion for the environment fully developed after spending a semester abroad in New Zealand and Australia studying sustainability. She has also studied in Italy, and being blessed with a mom as a Delta flight attendant she has traveled to places such as France, Mexico, Peru, Argentina, Costa Rica and Israel. Being the third of four children and lucky enough to grow up in a small town with a close knit community, Mary Ann has a passion for communication and bringing people together while encouraging them to try new things and follow their dreams. Mary Ann is ready to immerse herself in Panamanian culture and looks forward to working with the locals in San Miguel. Mary Ann is drawn to Panama not only for its scenery and culture, but she feels connected to Kalu Yala’s overall purpose and mission. She looks forward to being a part of something so new and incredible. While interning with the San Miguel Outreach Team, Mary Ann hopes to enrich the lives of others while broadening her own knowledge on the Panamanian culture.
