For this blog, I would like to share with all of you some amazing photos I shot of plants in San Miguel for the book that I am creating alongside graphic designer, Michelle Alpizar. Enjoy.

Beautiful, dainty pink veranera in full bloom

This guy is called camarón amarillo, or "yellow shrimp".

This one, however, is camarón rojo, or "red shrimp".

Pineapples are used in many ways in San Miguel, like to make liquor, juice, and medicine.

The skin of the guanabana fruit look somewhat reptilian, don't you think?

And the flower of the guanabana plant look like a lemon merengue.

Arachis pintoi often peaks its little yellow heads after rainstorms!

The mangos are ALMOST ripe, and we are so thrilled about it.

Saril is used with ginger to make a juice, but you need LOTS of saril petals to do that.

Frijoles, or beans, are often dried out in the sun to preserve them for later use.

Algodón, or cotton, grows differently in the tropics than in North America. It grows tall and the cotton balls hang upside down.

This one is not mature enough to use, but granadilla is used to make frozen treats called duros.

I was so thrilled to find this heliconia growing in the wild!

This one is called pie de niño, or "child's foot". No one seems to know why...

The "buenas tardes" plant remains closed all day, but opens around 4 o'clock and stays open until the morning. "Buenas tardes!"

Cucumbers, bananas, tomatoes, and yuca for sale at the Mini Super, or "Chinito".

And, as promised, here is a sneak peak at a possible cover of the PoSM book! Get excited!
