Driving into the valley

One glorious Saturday afternoon, a few of the interns and directors ventured through the windy, muddy roads towards The Valley. It was one of the first sunny days that we had seen in San Miguel for ages. I was excited to return to The Valley to hike around and lay by the river. As we were driving one of the directors pointed at an object on the bank of the road. The first part I saw was a black tail slithering over a small hill.

The driver stopped the car so that we could get a closer look at one of nature’s finest reptile, a snake. Since I have arrived in Panama I have heard stories about huge snakes; one in The Valley and another spotted at the San Miguel house. My anticipation was over; this snake exceeded my expectations as I began to take photographs of it quickly slithering up the hill.

We began to drive away while I watched how quickly the snake maneuvered up the hill of the bank. At that moment I knew that I was safe inside the vehicle, but i realized that had I been on foot it would be easy to miss  this stealthy creature in the grass.
