My time in Panama has come to an end, it’s a bittersweet feeling. Then I remember all the great memories that I’ve made here with the interns, my students, and the people in San Miguel, nothing could make me happier! There is no other place I would have rather been this semester.
A couple of days ago we went back to San Miguel to finish an art workshop and realized that it was going to be the last time I ever saw the kids. I was about to cry and then Alida put me on the spot and I had to think quick and make a speech for everyone.
“Les quiero dar las gracias por ser Buenos estudiantes y ser tan lindos con migo. Los voy a extrañar mucho y quiero que sepan que los quiero ye siempre pensare en ustedes.”
After playing a couple of games, some of the students came up to us and gave us oranges and gave us a hug and said they would miss us. It’s something I’ve noticed here, students don’t give their teachers apples; they give them oranges!
So we drove away from San Miguel with oranges, bracelets, and all these other great parting gifts that were made for us.
And that was it. My farewell to San Miguel and now back to my reality back home.
