So this is my first blog posting…ever. Forgive me if it’s a bit lackluster, but I think 2013 will be a year of firsts for me. Never flew before (I was 9 months old, doesn’t count), never been abroad before. I’ve never been in a tropical rain forest, rode a horse, or lived in such a b-e-a-utiful city either.

I don’t think I’ve been handed so much responsibility before, especially as quickly as things are happening here in Panama City. Our business intern program went from 0-110% in one morning, literally. Now we’re smack-dab in the middle of writing marketing proposals, doing research, and collaborating to create new business plans and modeling. We’re having meetings with people we don’t know about things we don’t know. And just when I think I start to have grasp on everything, this morning I get to add architectural programming to the list; and to be quite frank, I know absolutely nothing about that (yet).

But it’s all good! I’m the kind of person to get bored easily sometimes, so this whole “keeping me on my toes” thing is equal parts frightening and intoxicating. It’s especially satisfying to get a break at the end of a day of hard work. And with an entirely new city / country to explore, playing can be hard work too. But we’ve all found some interesting things to do, whether that be chilling at the Hard Rock Hotel pool overlooking the city to hiking out to the gorgeous valley to have a swim in the Pacora River. We even did a bit of multitasking in our down time to work on a new promotional video for Kalu Yala. The video was too large to attach, so here’s a link to youtube. Watch it!
Kalu Kala Internship – The First Week
Overall, I’m having an amazing time here. The people are all awesome, the culture and food are both delicious, and I don’t know how I could ask for too much more. With a TEDx event in the works, building projects with borderline ridiculous due dates, and a general upbeat, do-or-die attitude of everyone here, I’ve loved every minute of my first week. With week two approaching, I’m looking forward to a whole new set of experiences. Oh yeah, and I’ve also never done market research in pajamas before today either.
