Spring Agricluture: The Accomplished and the Take-away

With one last Valley stay to go, we find ourselves looking back on the semester and smiling.  Smiling of our hard work and the many things we’ll take away from this great Panamanian adventure we all shared.  The following pictures will take a look at the completed projects and accomplishments of the Agriculture program this Spring.  They will also give you a glimpse into the connections, memories and moments we will hold in our hearts long after we go our separate ways.

Compost
One of my first projects of the semester: Pit composting. We have two piles started that will soon make great fertilizer for our agroforest and raised bed garden.
Papaya
Spearheaded by Rob, the agroforest has begun to take shape. This papaya sapling has flourished since its transplant.
Mango
The Mango sapling, Mango trees are incredible sources of shade when full grown
Avocado
Aguacate en español, Avocado in English
Raised Bed
Raised bed garden for growing herbs, vegetables and other plants. The raised bed design provides for good drainage in the wet season.
Nigel
Meet our clay oven, Nigel the bullfrog. Made from clay, sand and straw bricks.
Rodeo
Two Agricluture team members attended the Rodeo in the neighboring Valley. It was a great chance to tap in to the local culture in a new way.
Rio Clean Up
The bond between San Miguel and Kalu Yala continues to grow thanks to Outreach events like Rio Clean Up Day.
Ja
The friendships we formed with our fellow interns will last far beyond Panama.
